Thai Massage is an ancient form of massage that originated about 2,500 years ago in Thailand. This practice uses passive stretching and gentle pressure along the body’s energy lines to increase flexibility, relieve muscle and joint tension and balance the body’s energy systems. Thai Massage experience leaves you feeling relaxed, energized and joyful.
Thai Massage has its roots in Ayurveda and Buddhist spiritual tradition. Its purpose is to heal a person physically, emotionally and spiritually. Thus, Thai Massage should not be confused with sensual massage. It is performed fully clothed and while there is constant body contact between the “giver” and the “receiver”, rather than rubbing on muscles as done in other forms of massage, the body is compressed, pulled, stretched and rocked.
During a Thai Massage session, the giver moves the receiver’s body into various stretches and positions and uses his/or body weight to apply gentle pressure on key points along the body. The receiver remains relaxed but engaged as his/her body is moved through a series of yoga-like stretches.
The benefits of Thai Massage include pain relief, stress reduction, increased energy, better sleep, improved circulation, flexibility gains and feelings of joy, bliss and connectedness.
Thai Massage involves deep energetic connections between the giver and the receiver and can be performed as a shared meditation. The partners may choose to take turns giving and receiving, but regardless of the roles played, Thai Massage is an enjoyable and healing experience for both partners.
Interfusion Festival’s Thai Massage workshops are led by experienced practitioners who will guide the participants through proper form and mechanics of the practice.
