Appointee Announcement: Ebonie Lee, Brazilian Zouk Program Director

We are beyond proud to formally announce that Ms. Ebonie Lee has accepted the appointment as Director of the Brazilian Zouk Program for Interfusion Festival IX (IF2024), as nominated by Ms. Ashley Kent. In her new role with our team, Ebonie will oversee the collaborative development of the BZP educational curriculum and Zouk DJ programming, upholding the cultural and academic integrity of practices, and recommending novel ways to better serve the needs of our growing multidisciplinary festival community.

Many may already know Ebonie as a Denver-based Brazilian Zouk Lambada dancer, performer & instructor who has extensive training in a variety of solo and partner dance modalities, from Contemporary and Salsa to Japanese Classical dance and West African dance and more. She was introduced to Brazilian Zouk Lambada in 2010, training in DC, then in her hometown of NYC with ZoukNY and ZenZouk. She started teaching in 2015 in Atlanta, NYC and events nationwide and joined Interfusion Festival by 2017, first performing and later returning as an instructor with exceptional ratings from students.

“My journey in Zouk includes wanting to explore one of my passions in event organization— co-creating, making space and letting the most dedicated and inspiring teachers shine. I expressed my intention to Ashley Kent to take on this dream role, and soon after I was invited to carry the torch for 2024. Thank you Ashley Kent, as well as Gui Prada, Christian Rodriguez & Mikela Moore for entrusting me to lead this program! I appreciate everyone who extends opportunities to me to teach, present and create in Zouk and I hope that through this, I can create something special for this dance that is so dear to so many of us.” – Ebonie said in accepting her director appointment with our team.

Ebonie is passionate about Brazilian Zouk Lambada history, other African Diasporic dances and conscious movement techniques, incorporating various styles into her movement. She believes in the power of dance to connect and communicate, and the nourishment that creativity brings to life. Please join us in celebrating and congratulating Ms. Ebonie Lee on her well-deserved appointment as Director of the Brazilian Zouk Program for Interfusion Festival.
